More than Useful The Story of Wood

The evolution of xylem in terrestrial plants provides a survival advantage in terrestrial ecosystems and resources for many organisms. Plants that supply wood fulfill human needs for food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and entertainment. Those that do not can survive for a long time, helping to maintain ecosys-tems.

In this special exhibition, starting with the formation of wood, let us learn about how plants adapt to their natural environment and the diverse functions of trees in our lives. In addition, let us rethink the value and definitions of wood and non-wood and useful and useless from multiple aspects, such as economy, envi-ronment, and ecology, and realize the important roles that vascular plants play in terrestrial ecosystems.
